Richie Pollack: Calgarys Harmonica Player of the Year |
Calgarys cross-harp ambassador Richie Pollack has been awarded the Harmonica Player of the Year for the Calgary Blues Music Association Hall of Fame! The Calgary Blues Music Association (CBMA) is committed to fostering, preserving and furthering blues music and musicians, as well as presenting some of the finest blues to be found anywhere. The newly formed CBMA Blues Hall of Fame presented six categories for the 2008 inauguration of the Hall of Fame which were determined by the CBMA Board of Directors. Nominees were also selected by the Directors however winners in each category were chosen by the public in an online vote at the Calgary Bluesfest website.
Richie got his first harmonica from a Christmas stocking and has been playing and improving since. Through fronting a few bands and gaining session experience Richie has become a first call player among the mouth harp elite. He challenges the stereotype of the diatonic harmonica by tackling different styles of music, with great encouragement from audiences and musicians alike. One could say (and has said..), Richie Pollack plays the livin tar outta that little ole tin-sandwich!
Currently, Richie is getting back out supporting his most recent recording, Stew, which was nominated for the 2006 WCMA award for Outstanding Blues Recording.

They loved the music, danced all night, consider it the best party EVER!! It was great that you included the kids and people from the dance floor to participate in the fun. The group was out for a good time and could have gone on longer into the night - some actually did at another venue. The music was perfect for all ages and our crowd ranged in age from 20 years old to 80.

"
